Student Dress Code
Policy 612.1 for School District No. 73 (Kamloops/Thompson) states:
"Students are expected to adhere to standards of cleanliness and dress that are compatible with the requirements of an academic environment. Those standards generally acceptable to the community as appropriate in a school setting will be the reference.
A student's appearance or mode of dress or cleanliness will not be permitted to disrupt the educational process for themselves or others nor will it constitute a threat to health or safety. When in the judgement of a principal or designate, a student's appearance disrupts the educational environment or constitutes a threat to health or safety, the student will be required to make modifications."

Clearwater Secondary School Dress Code Policy:
The responsibility for the dress and grooming of a student rests primarily with the student and his or her parents or guardians.

The responsibility for the dress and grooming of a student rests primarily with the student and his or her parents or guardians.
Allowable Dress & Grooming:
- Students must wear clothing including both a shirt with pants or skirt, or the equivalent, and shoes. Shorts and skirts must cover the buttocks at all times.
- Shirts and dresses must have fabric in the front, on the sides, and the lower 2/3 of the back.
- Shirts must meet pants, shorts, or skirts without exposing midriff or lower back during normal wear.
- Clothing must cover undergarments, waistbands and bra (shoulder straps excluded).
- Hats and other headwear must allow the face to be visible and not interfere with the line of sight to any student or staff. Hoodies must allow the student face and ears to be visible to staff.
- Clothing must be suitable for all scheduled classroom activities including physical education, science labs, wood shop, food labs and other activities where unique hazards exist. Suitable clothing will be described in the course outline.
- Specialized courses may require specialized attire, such as sports uniforms or safety gear. Specialized attire will be described in the course outline.
Non-Allowable Dress & Grooming:
- Clothing may not depict, advertise or advocate the use of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana or other controlled substances.
- Clothing may not depict pornography, nudity or sexual acts.
- Clothing may not use or depict hate speech targeting groups based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious affiliation or any other protected groups.
- Clothing may not display profanity.
- Clothing, including gang identifiers, must not threaten the health or safety of any other student or staff.
- If the student’s attire or grooming threatens the health or safety of any other person, then discipline for dress or grooming violations should be consistent with discipline policies for similar violations.
