Student Rights and Responsibilities
Students at Clearwater Secondary School have rights and these rights come with responsibilities. The following guidelines are to ensure that everyone understands the related expectations. These will help us to work together in maintaining harmony, safety and productivity in our school.
1. You have the right to an education.
You have the responsibility to be on time and be prepared.
This means:
(a) Attending all classes on time with all required materials.
(b) Completing all homework and assignments and bringing them to class by the due date.
(c) Taking examinations and tests at the prescribed times.
(d) Being responsible for work covered in class, even if you are absent.
(e) Doing your best (participating to the best of your ability) in all school activities.
2. You have the right to hear and be heard.
You have the responsibility to respect others and what they have to say.
This means:
(a) Listening and not interrupting while someone is speaking.
(b) Treating fellow students, teachers and non-teaching staff with courtesy and respect.
(c) Avoid using inappropriate comments, put downs, and swearing.
(d) Respecting the personal property of others.
3. You have the right to be safe in your school.
You have a responsibility to help make school safe for everyone.
This means:
(a) Not intimidating others, physically or emotionally, both in person or through social media.
(b) Assisting others when they need help.
(c) Driving safely at all times
(d) Not pushing, running or shouting in the hallways.
(e) Reporting any incidents that threaten the safety of others.
4. You have the right to use the resources at this school.
You have the responsibility to care for these resources and use them appropriately.
This means:
(a) Asking and obtaining permission before taking resources.
(b) Keeping the school clean. This is your home away from home.
(c) Not vandalizing or damaging the school or its contents.
(d) Returning textbooks and library books which are on loan, in good condition.
(e) Using school computers in an ethical, safe and socially responsible manner.
5. You have certain privileges at this school.
You have the responsibility to not abuse these privileges.
This means:
(a) Keeping your assigned locker in good condition and free of offensive pictures and messages.
(b) Be polite and part of an enthusiastic audience at assemblies, concerts, and sporting events.
(c) Dress and act in an appropriate manner.
(d) Represent Clearwater Secondary School as a good citizen both at school and in other venues.
